Not all biochar is created equal:
- Soil Charge is >85% pure carbon, significantly exceeding the International Biochar Initiative Class A standards of >60% carbon.
- Soil Charge is pulverized for optimal dispersion.
bio-char = A uniquely formulated charcoal derived from a living organism for the specific purpose of being applied to improve the soil.
HOW BIOCHAR WORKS:
Biochar is very porous with a high surface area structure. Therefore it acts like a sponge as it absorbs water, nutrients and fertilizer and holds these vital elements near your plants roots for steady consumption.
The porous nature of biochar provides a cozy home for microorganisms, beneficial bacteria, and fungi; creating a healthy soil community. One gram of biochar has around 9,000 square feet of surface area.
Given its slight electrical charge, biochar acts like a magnet for nutrients. Adding biochar to your soil increases the Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) which is basically the soil’s ability to attract and retain nutrients.
Spread ½” of Compost Blend over your garden area and mix in a few inches deep. One bucket of Compost Blend will cover about 20 square feet of garden space at ½” thickness. Feel free to experiment with adding more or less to your soil.
100% pure Biochar
It is important to charge up your biochar with nutrients and microbes before application. Therefore we advise you to innoculate it with compost for 1-2 weeks before application into your soil.
Spread ½” of the 100% Pure Biochar over your garden area and mix in a few inches deep. One bucket of the 100% Pure Biochar will cover about 40 square feet of garden space at ½” thickness. Feel free to experiment with adding more or less to your soil.
Soil Charge is pulverized to 20 mesh for better soil dispersion.
If applying Soil Charge in pots, it is recommended that biochar is no greater than 20% of the total pot volume.
IS IT A FERTILIZER?
No, instead it is a porous structure that increases the fertility of the soil. Adding Soil Charge to your soil helps retain the fertiilizer you apply and in effect require less applications.
HOW IS IT SUSTAINABLE?
Biochar is made from organic waste that would otherwise decompose and release carbon into the atmosphere. Instead the waste is transferred into carbon which is sequestered in the soil, rather than releasing into the atmosphere.
HOW WILL IT AFFECT MY CROPS Yield?
It will increase crop yield and enhance plant growth by attracting more nutrients and microorganisms to the roots of the plants.
HOW LONG UNTIL I SEE RESULTS?
Results in yield and growth should be in the first growing season.
IS BIOCHAR ORGANIC?
Yes, Soil Charge produces biochar from untreated wood waste.
DO I NEED TO ADD ANYTHING TO SOIL CHARGE?
The 50/50 Soil Charge blend is ready for use. The 100% biochar should be aged for 2 weeks with compost to load the nutrients and microbes valuable to the plant.
SHOULD I USE 100% pure BIOCHAR OR THE SOIL Charge COMPOST BLEND?
If you are already composting, use your own compost to mix with 100%; otherwise it might be easier to start with our 50/50 blend.
Do I need to apply every year?
No, biochar will remain in your soil for hundreds of years, but annual application improves your soil’s fertility by attracting more nutrients and microorganisms in years to come.
HOW MUCH GROUND WILL I BE ABLE TO COVER WITH A BUCKET OF Soil Charge 100% pure Biochar AND Soil Charge 50/50 BLEND?
100% Biochar will cover 40 square feet once combined with your compost; 50/50 Compost Blend with cover 20 square feet.
WILL SOIL Charge CHANGE MY SOIL’S PH?
Potentially, depending upon the soil to which it is applied.
IS THIS KILLING TREES?
No, Soil Charge is made from untreated wood waste. Therefore it actually is accelerating the effects of, for example, a forest fire or other natural decay process.
WHAT SOILS NEED BIOCHAR THE MOST?
Sandy soils, clays and non-terra preta.
IS BIOCHAR FOOD FOR THE PLANT?
No, biochar is a a soil enhancement that improves the soil’s structure and attracts nutrients, which are food for the plant.
ARE THERE POSITIVE RESULTS FOR GREENHOUSE OR Hydroponic USE?
Many studies suggest that Soil Charge 50/50 mixed with 2/3 inert soil is a great growing medium for these circumstances,
